How can guest houses add to a flourishing destination and, in turn, a flourishing community?

VISITFLANDERS ensured that on 12 and 13 September 2019 as part of the Travelling to Tomorrow summit in Bruges, interested parties from the hotel and guest house sector were given the opportunity to offer their ideas about the best approaches. The outlining of three interesting initiatives – Kamping Kontakt, Tabanaa and the innovative concepts from the Accor Group, which focuses on sustainability, the neighbourhood's sense of community and the well-being of their employees – offered a starting point for an interesting afternoon, packed full of ‘flourishing’ ideas.

Flanders Fields – Centenary of the Great War

While WWI tourism is one way of preserving heritage and its history, it should also allow for meaningfulness and reflection. Stefaan Gheysen (Director General Westtoer), Stephen Lodewyck (Programme coordinator Centenary of the Great War) and Koen Defour (Researcher Westtoer Knowledge Centre) explain how the Westtoer team achieved this in remembrance tourism (2014-2018) during the Travelling to Tomorrow summit on 12 and 13 September 2019 in Bruges.

About Travel to Tomorrow

The experience of travelling changes travellers, the places they visit, and the people and local communities who 'make' and inhabit these places. That’s why tourism is more than simple economics. We want to investigate, design and stimulate that 'more' part so that all those involved in the tourism industry can derive the maximum benefit from it. All activities that take place within the framework of this course are brought together under the umbrella of 'Travelling to Tomorrow'.
